TecNight Frauenfeld: Science and technology meeting place for young and old

On Thursday, 6 November 2025, the Frauenfeld Cantonal School was transformed into a hotspot for technology and science enthusiasts for a total of around 1,400 visitors. More than 100 experts from universities, research institutes, companies and the cantonal administration offered inspiring insights into their work and the current state of research and aroused curiosity and the will to shape the future.

In the afternoon, around 800 pupils attended two practice-orientated modules and were able to choose from 47 different topics on TecDay:

Overview of offers

They tinkered, experimented, designed and tried things out.

"We thought about things that we normally almost completely ignore."

TecNight participants

"I thought it was cool that you could try things out and do them yourself and didn't just have to listen."

Students try out VR and AR with Laszlo Arato from HSLU.

Students discover the fascinating world of microorganisms with Sandra Mischler from the ZHAW.

Students take off with pilot Roman Wiedmer from SWISS.

In the evening, the Kanti also opened its doors to family members, friends and interested members of the public as part of TecNight.

Whether future energy, artificial intelligence, mobility, medicine or geology: the variety of topics showed how present and, above all, exciting technology is in our everyday lives. The dialogue between experts, young people and interested adults makes the event a unique platform that brings knowledge to life and makes the future tangible.

Programme

The TecNight was opened by Vice-Rector Stefan Casanova, Head of the Office of Economics and Labour Daniel Wessner and Secretary General of SATW Esther Koller.

The student band got the crowded foyer going and the many interactive exhibits were a hit even before the first presentations started.

Starting at 19:00, the older young people and adults were able to choose from 3 science talks with experts and students from the Kanti and a further 37 different presentations.

The students prepared for the discussion with Stefan Schneider, geologist and office manager at CSD Ingenieure AG, in the supplementary subject of geography.

Meanwhile, younger visitors, with or without their parents, tinkered around in the Ozobot course:

The response to the concentrated load of innovation, science and technology was correspondingly enthusiastic:

  • "How highly complex topics such as entanglement or nanophysics were explained in a way that we could understand and that was super interesting."
  • "There was plenty of choice, the length of the presentations was perfect and we had enough time after the presentation to ask questions before moving on to the next one. The questions were all answered very well."
  • "I really enjoyed the variety of topics and the opportunity to hear so much different content from competent people. You don't often get a chance like this - especially not for free."
  • "There was really something going on at the Kanti - with exciting presentations, great exhibits and a very special evening atmosphere."
  • "Thank you very much, it was very exciting and relaxed. We thought it was great that there was something for all age groups."
  • "Very great event, wish I could have heard many more presentations."
  • "Many thanks to the great organisation and all the enthusiastic speakers."
  • "Great event, please repeat! Thank you very much!"

In addition to the approximately 800 students, at least 600 family members, friends and other external visitors found their way to Kanti Frauenfeld that evening - a wonderful reward for the Kanti and SATW organisation team.

A big thank you to student Lukas Diehl for the great photos and to the Frauenfeld Cantonal School as well as to all the speakers, partners and the many helpers who contributed to the success of TecDay and TecNight with their expertise and commitment.

Next dates

TecDays will once again be held at several schools in Switzerland in 2026. Locations and dates will be announced in good time. The annual TecNight will be held on 29 October 2026 with the cantonal school in Sargans.
