TecDay at the Alte Kantonsschule Aarau

On 24 March 2026, an inspiring TecDay took place at the Alte Kantonsschule Aarau. Around 1,300 pupils spent a day immersed in the fascinating world of technology and science. In 74 different modules, they gained practical insights into current topics from research and industry - from computer science and engineering to medical applications and sustainable technologies.

The extensive programme offered participants the opportunity to choose different workshops according to their interests and to actively participate in group work, experiments, practical tinkering or creative problem-solving processes. Experts from universities and companies not only imparted specialised knowledge, but also provided personal insights into their professional fields and career paths. This made technology tangible and future prospects tangible.

Positive feedback & new perspectives

With a response rate of 34%, the feedback on TecDay was numerous and predominantly positive: around 26% of those surveyed rated the event as "excellent", almost 60% as "good", 13% as "moderate", while only 1% gave a negative rating.

The variety and topicality of the topics and the opportunity to make direct contact with experts were particularly appreciated. Many participants emphasised that they were able to gain new perspectives on technical professions and found the practical insights very motivating.

Increased interest & guidance for choosing a degree programme

The aim of TecDay is to get young people interested in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and to provide them with guidance for their choice of degree programme and career.

The evaluation survey showed that 12% of pupils were more interested in maths, 24% in computer science, 52% in science and 45% in technology. In addition, 60% found the TecDay helpful for their choice of study programme.

Voice of the students

TecDay was a great opportunity to gain an insight into various technical professions. It was always particularly cool when you could do something yourself and didn't just have to listen. Most of the presentations were exciting and you could tell that the speakers were really enthusiastic about their subject. However, there were also a few less motivated participants, which sometimes dampened the mood a little. Overall, however, the choice of modules was quite cool and varied, so it was a good change from normal lessons. The content was informative and helps you choose your degree programme and career. In some modules, it was difficult to reconcile all the different levels of knowledge, which was a bit exhausting at times. Nevertheless, the modules were exciting overall and it would even have been cool to be able to attend a fourth module. Overall, TecDay was well organised and a rewarding experience.
