Dr. Mark Lantz
Mark Lantz received B.Sc. (91) and M.Sc. (93) degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Alberta, Canada, and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Cambridge, U.K., in 1997 for work in the field of scanning probe microscopy and tribology. He spent two years as a postdoctoral researcher at the Joint Research Center for Atom Technology in Japan, followed by two years at the Physics Institute in the University of Basel, Switzerland. In 2001, he joined the IBM Research-Europe Zurich Laboratory where he is currently a distinguished research scientist and manager of the MagneticTape Research Group. Dr. Lantz has over twenty four years of experience in storage technology research and became an IEEE Fellow 2019 for contributions to digital magentic tape recording. He became an IBM Master Inventor in 2011, is co-inventor on over 230 patents and is a co-author of over 135 publications. His current research interests include storage technology, robotics, MEMS and nanotechnology.
