Resources and sustainability

Resources and sustainability

Our planet's natural resources are finite, which is why careful and efficient use of resources is all the more essential - from extraction to disposal.

It is becoming increasingly clear that today’s exploitation, not only of fossil fuels but also of many other natural resources, cannot be sustained in the longer term. And yet consumption is still rising. The world population is growing all the time, and in big countries such as China and India increasing prosperity is leading to ever higher consumption of resources. At the same time the industrial countries are barely managing to reduce their per capita consumption at all. To help bring about a breakthrough in the sustainable use of resources there is a need for the decision-makers and the people in general to be made more aware of the problem of resources and provided with the facts.
