En 2004, le premier Transferkolleg a été organisé sur le thème "Nanotechnologies pour les Life Sciences". Sur les vingt projets présentés, douze ont été retenus ; trois ont été exécutés avec succès. Le Transferkolleg 2004 a été soutenu financièrement par l'Agence pour la promotion de l'innovation de la Confédération (CTI) et la Swiss Biotech Association.
