The first Transferkolleg was run in 2004 on the theme "Nanotechnology for the Life Sciences". Of the 20 projects submitted, 12 were given support and three of these were successfully taken further. The Transferkolleg 2004 had financial support from the Swiss Innovation Promotion Agency (CTI) and was supported by the Swiss Biotech Association.
