Drivers making transport volume expansion unsustainable

Abstract

The main drivers of transport demand. The transport sectors emissions moving in the wrong direction always. It is one of the key megatrends that have to change in order to mitigate climate change. There is an increasing gap between political ambitions and market realities looking forward into 2030. People's very low elasticity demand for private mobility. Transport is a global industry dominated by international actors. Globalization is based on cheap transport. Potentials for a new fuel policy and smart access limitations.

CV

Christian Kornevall is an economist by training and is of Swedish nationality. He started his career as a teaching professor at Stockholm University on labor market issues. He worked for International Labor Organization (ILO) in Latin America in the 70-ties on employment and income distribution issues. He returned to Sweden to work at Sida with development aid. He joined the Swedish Red Cross and became employed by International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
After 10 years involvement in wars and conflicts, Christian moved to the UN in Vienna (UNDCP) and later headed its Regional Office in Bangkok with the aim at fighting drug trafficking and organized crime in the South East Asia region. He returned to Europe and joined WWF International as Deputy Secretary General, focusing on establishing working relationships between the WWF and global business in key industrial sectors.
Between 2001 and 2005, Christian was Group Senior Vice President in charge of Sustainability Affairs of ABB in Zurich. At present, he is Director at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), heading Energy Efficiency in Building (EEB) and Mobility projects.
