2012 CAETS/SATW Annual Meeting and Symposium

2012 CAETS/SATW Annual Meeting and Symposium

The 2012 Annual Meeting of the International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technical Sciences (CAETS) will be held from August 29 to 31 in Zurich, Switzerland.

The main event will be a one-day topical symposium entitled “Urban Development and Public Transportation –Towards an Improved Understanding of the Interdependencies” on Thursday, August 30. The event will be organized by the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW) and combined with its own 2012 Annual Congress. The symposium is open to any persons interested.

The aim of the symposium is to find solutions which allow controlled sustainable urban development supported by highly efficient intermodal public transportation systems, thus avoiding situations where anonymous suburbs spread out into green land along new traffic links, or into areas where they are poorly served by public transportation, forcing people to use private vehicles. Noise mitigation will also be a consideration. The symposium will consist of four keynote speeches by renowned international experts, and eleven topical presentations. The final outcome of the event will be a statement addressed to politicians and decision-makers.

An interesting and varied social program will also be arranged for August 29 to September 1.

The venue for the entire meeting including the symposium will be the Swissôtel Zurich-Oerlikon, a business hotel ideally located within easy reach of both Zurich Airport and Zurich’s city centre.
