Introduction and the Issue
The Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences' 2010 Congress entitled "Aerospace - Challenges and Opportunities for Switzerland" will provide an up-to-date overview of key topics and challenges in the aerospace sector. In particular, it aims to contribute towards highlighting the opportunities Switzerland has in various areas and, by looking at various aspects, provide a forum to discuss the contributions our country has made to successfully realising these opportunities.

Experts both from Switzerland and abroad will enrich the Congress with their contributions. Along with underlying aspects, the Congress also aims to highlight areas where action is required. On the basis of concrete proposals, issues will be discussed such as how our country and the people active in the sector can optimally meet the needs of the aerospace industry, and pool and consolidate their strengths in the best way possible.

The Challenge
Given the much harsher conditions, are the contributions and efforts made in the aerospace sector enough to maintain Switzerland’s successful position in the global competitive environment over the coming years and decades? Can our country and our people who are involved in the various sectors hold their ground in a league that everyone wants to join thanks to innovation, top performance and selective networking? If yes, in which areas – and what will it take?
